Decided it was now time to put the back suspension together. I
firstly connected the differential to the cross tube then with some help
lifted the two onto the chassis and placed the 2 large bolts through the
rubber mount to the chassis. Before they were tightened up, the
back differential bracket was held in place while four holes were
drilled to allow 4 bolts to hold this in place. The 4 bolts and 2
through the chassis were then tightened.
I then connected the swing-arms back on to the cross tube having
already bolted in the spring locators. Again to add build quality
these were first painted. Swing-arms bolts were tightened but not torqued
to the correct settings as I wish to wait until the chassis is on its
wheels. Placed the springs in position then with a little help (
and a lot of moaning from the wife) placed the springs under tension
while fitted the shock absorbers. The shocks took a great deal of
washers to pack out!
It was then time to place to drive-shafts back into the assembly with
the brake back-plates and torque up to the correct settings. After
these were in place I refitted the back brake cylinders. I checked
the cylinders out first and found one had seized so stripped and
cleaned-up. Once the cylinders were back in place I could then run
the final brake pipes runs from the flexi pipes to the cylinders.
Below is how it looks with the back end on!
